Josep Llusca

Josep Lluscà was born in Barcelona in 1948. He studied design at the Escuela de Diseño Eina in Barcelona and the École des Arts et Métiers in Montreal. Today he teaches industrial design at the Escuela Eina in Barcelona. Since 1972 Josep Lluscà has freelanced as a designer of lighting, furniture, packaging, electrical appliances, and utilitarian objects for Cassina, Driade, Flos, General Electric, Oken, Permasa, Rosenthal, Sanyo, Sara Lee, and WMF. In the 1980s his elegant and meticulously crafted furniture earned him international acclaim. Like other Spanish designer's work, Josep Lluscà's designs often retain a strong national aesthetic identity and are inspired by Catalan designers as Antonio Gaudí. Josep Lluscà has received numerous design awards worldwide for his work: in 1990 Josep Lluscà was a recipient of the national Design Prize. Between 1985 and 1987 he was deputy chairman of the ADI-FAD (Asociación de Diseño Industrial del Fomento de las Artes Decorativas). In addition, he was a co-founder of the Spanish Asociación de Diseñadores Profesionales.
